In the heart of Swansea, Ty Fforest Resource Hub stands as a beacon of community support, offering various different vital services to those in need as well as the wider community. Among its key initiatives is the Foodshare program, designed to combat food waste and provide accessible nourishment to all.
What is Foodshare?
The Foodshare program at Ty Fforest operates on a simple yet impactful principle: redistributing surplus food to prevent waste and support the community. Open to everyone, regardless of financial status, the program requires no referrals or vouchers. Participants are encouraged to bring a carrier bag and a smile to collect available food items. Regular Foodshare sessions are held every night from 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM, and on Sundays from 5.00 PM to 10:00 PM at the hub located at 485 Llangyfelach Road, Brynhyfryd, Swansea SA5 9EA
Everyday, our volunteers collect surplus foods from various stores. The stores are: Tesco, CRS, Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl, M&S, Bookers and more!
The food collected is food that would have otherwise been destined for landfill. It is difficult to predict what foods are available each day, although as an example you would expect a range of salads, vegetables, fruits, breads, pastries, cakes. There is also chilled foods such as meats, ready meals, sandwiches, vegeterian & vegan foods.
